Margo Price has apparently been keeping herself busy over the summer, as simultaneous releases and announcements today attest.

Price’s new single, “Been to the Mountain,” is her first new music since 2020’s That’s How Rumors Get Started, and it’s a statement piece — a proudly defiant five-and-a-half-minute musical autobiography.

The song and its companion video, also released today, were born in California, recorded in Jonathan Wilson’s studio in Topanga Canyon and filmed around Los Angeles. Wilson, who’s known for work with artists such as Angel Olson and Father John Misty, produced the single, which was co-written by Price and her guitarist husband Jeremy Ivey.

Price also today releases the debut episode of her new Sonos Radio podcast, Runaway Horses. The podcast takes its title, as Price explains in the initial episode, from experiences she had as a teen working with rescue horses. And its initial six-episode season spotlights musical “runaway horses” — artists Price admires as independent iconoclasts.

The initial episode, which is accompanied by an in-studio video, features an in-depth conversation with Emmylou Harris. Subsequent episodes will feature Amythyst Kiah, Swamp Dogg, Bob Weir, Bettye LaVette, and Lucius.

And all of this is lead-up to Price’s fall tour promoting her forthcoming memoir, Maybe We’ll Make It, released by the University of Texas Press. The book tour kicks off October 4 at Grimey’s.
