From the East Side to London: AmericanaFest UK

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic reaching critical levels in the US and UK, the 2021 AmericanaFest UK is proceeding undeterred as it makes the jump to virtual space. This year’s festival features a steller line-up of showcase performances from the UK, US, Canada, and Australia that you can enjoy in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Even better, the East Side’s music scene is well represented with the Wild Ponies Happy Hour showcase that will be webcast on Wednesday, January 27 at 4:30 p.m. CST. Recorded in the Wild Ponies’ backyard in Madison, and sponsored by the Wild Ponies’ food truck, Dreamers Nashville, the showcase will feature the Wild Ponies, Sarah Potenza, Kyshona, and Jaimee Harris.

Telisha Williams of the Wild Ponies says that after a year of performing and watching livestreams, hosting a live line-up of talent was a special experience. “It was especially exciting to be able to bring these artists together in our own backyard and do so in a manner that was safe for everyone. Our neighbors even got involved as audience members as they watched from ‘balcony seating’ over the fence.”

As a veteran of past AmericanaFest UKs, Williams says they especially admire the Americana Music Associations UK’s commitment to diversity. “Because this year’s fest is virtual it’s even more diverse,” Williams says. “Many artists who might not have been able to travel to London are on the bill this year.”

AmericanaFest UK runs January 26-28, 2021. Tickets are £25 and include access to all streaming showcases, the awards ceremony, and a special John Prine tribute. All events will be archived and will be available for watching for two weeks. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit americanafestuk.com.
