Charlie Watts Tribute at The Basement East to Benefit Waverly Flood Victims

This Saturday night a few of East Nashville’s finest musicians will gather together at The Basement East to pay tribute to Charlie Watts, with the proceeds benefitting victims of the recent flash floods in Waverly, Tenn. Performers include Will Hoge, Lilly Hiatt, Tommy Womack, Andrew Leahey, Grimey, Greg Mangus, Jon Latham, Amy Darling, Jillette Johnson, Dirt Reynolds, and Music City Stones.

Watts left this mortal coil for the great gig in the sky Tuesday, aged 80.

“I really wanted to find a way to help out Waverly flood victims and then Charlie passes and the idea hit immediately,” Mike Grimes, co-owner of The Basement East, told Rolling Stone. “We had to do it. Let’s rock for Charlie and raise money for Waverly.”

The flash floods this past Saturday ripped through the Waverly area leaving 20 dead, the town shattered in its wake. A community memorial service will be held to remember the victims of the flooding at the Courthouse Square in downtown Waverly this evening at 7 p.m.

In addition to attending Saturday night’s show, donations can be made through the following organizations:

  • The Community Foundation has activated its Tennessee Emergency Response Fund in response to recent severe storms and flooding in Middle Tennessee. Grants from the Fund will be made to nonprofits supporting relief and restoration in areas of Middle Tennessee affected by the severe storms and floods
  • Tayla Lynn, Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter, organized the “Heal Humphrey’s County“ GoFundMe page. Loretta’s ranch foreman, Wayne Spears, perished having been swept away in the floodwaters. Spears—considered family by the Lynns—was known as the “Heartbeat of the Ranch.”
  • WSMV is partnering with the American Red Cross to get help to those impacted by the Tennessee flooding.
